Letters from Taiwan

 Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou said on Saturday student protests over a controversial trade pact with mainland China will not affect the potential for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

In other words, “I’m full steam ahead to collect my Nobel Peace Prize for contravening the 1948 UNDHR and ignoring the wishes of the Taiwanese people for self determination and their consistent and measured desire not to become a part of a ‘reunified China’.  My legacy and reputation in Chinese history is more important than the declared wishes of 23 million people."
